Department of Energy National Appliance Energy Conservation Act

National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA)

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), as part of the National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA) requires higher Energy Factor (EF) ratings on almost all residential gas, electric, oil and tankless gas water heaters.

Home Warranty of America understands and promotes the importance of energy-efficiency standards. We stay up-to-date on any new regulations and stay in compliance. HWA is alerted to any improved energy-efficiency standards and makes the necessary updates to our system to stay up-to-date.

HWA will continue to install water heaters that meet the new requirements per the terms of the customer agreement. Please note:

Many of the water heaters installed in the past will now be larger in size and weight, affecting how the unit is stored, transported and installed. Primary impact will be in condos, home with utility closets and multi-family units.
In cases where the customers cannot replace an existing water heater with a similar model, options will need to be provided.
Some of the NAECA product options may require an electrical feed, venting, or condensate disposal into an installation where none of these factors existed with the original water heater.
