Jun 25, 2009 System & Appliance Maintenance - Garbage Disposal Garbage Disposal You can easily sharpen the blades in your unity and clean them by placing a few ice cubes in, grinding them and flushing the disposal with cold water. This can also help remove buildup. To further clean and de-scale the unit, pour a cup of vinegar in and let it sit for an hour or so and then flush it with hot water. You should do this procedure to your unit about once a year or so. Safety and Object Removal It is NEVER safe to put your hands in the unit. The blades are very sharp and the unit could accidentally turn on. If something becomes stuck in the unit's blades, use the supplied manufacturer's tool for removal or a long wooden spoon handle. You may have to push a reset button. Refer to your manual for proper removal of unwanted items from the unit and resetting. Make sure you are familiar with what you can grind safely in your unit. Your manual will tell you these items. Instruct the entire family on how to safely operate your disposal. If Your Unit is Not Working If you have a problem with your disposal not working, as with all systems or appliances, check for blown fuses, tripped circuit breakers and proper power first. |
